Media Relations Specialist - Haiti

Habitat for Humanity International (HFHI) is seeking a dedicated professional for the position of Media Relations Specialist (Haiti Disaster Response).  This position reports & works closely with the Manager of Communications (Haiti Disaster Response).  This position is based at our area office in Port Au Prince, Haiti.

The primary responsibilities are:

*Proactively network and drive consistent dialogue with local media to pitch stories and ideas promoting Habitat's Haiti Disaster Response efforts.
*Provide interview support for local Habitat Haiti leadership, including scheduling, Q&A's, talking points and follow-up.
*Coordinate with media/information officers from partner NGOs for joint media/advocacy initiatives.
*Assist in drafting press releases, testimonials, etc. for inclusion in various Haiti-related media productions such as pamphlets, articles, etc.
*May involve assisting with implementation of E-communications strategy for HFHI’s Haiti disaster response efforts.
*Lead implementation and maintenance of local media projects and events in alignment with overall communications strategy.
*Coordinate the creation of web content - articles, stories, etc. in liaison with Habitat Haiti and other HFHI personnel.
*Facilitate information sharing between Habitat Haiti and HFHI’s Headquarters.
*Assist in the research and writing of briefing materials, advocacy papers, reports and public information documents.
*Serve as external relations resource for field staff.

 
Required Skills: 
*Bachelor's or Associate’s Degree
*Fluency in English, French and Creole.
*Familiarity with local media outlets.
*2-3 years media-related experience.
*Non-profit and/or International experience preferred.
*Bachelors or Associates degree.
*Excellent written and verbal communication skills
*Strong creative abilities – both in media production and content creation.
*Familiarity with social media.
*Strong organizational skills.
*Excellent interpersonal skills & willingness to work as part of the team.
