Habitat for Humanity International (HFHI) is seeking a dedicated professional for the position of Structural Engineer - Haiti. Reporting to the Director, Program Support Services - Haiti, the Structural Engineer will serve as a subject matter expert and provide a wide range of technical support to HFHI’s reconstruction efforts. This position is based at our office in Port Au Prince, Haiti. Key Responsibilities:
* Assess the structural integrity of earthquake affected buildings to determine structural stability. *Provide constructive feedback with regard to existing temporary shelter designs; Do ongoing cost-benefit analyses to determine feasibility of various material usage while weighing the pros and cons of each. *Make cost efficient recommendations, taking into account durability factors such as overall strength, wind resistance, etc. *Make recommendations around locally appropriate and sustainable repair solutions and demolition strategies. * Work closely with the Architectural/CAD Designer, Civil Engineer and Urban Planner to ensure project goals are integrated holistically. * Provide documentation around progress made relative to demolition, repairs, construction, retro-fitting and building use. * Interface and collaborate with members of local government, donors, partner organizations, project workers and local residents to attain project goals. * Other duties as needed by the Director, Program Support Services.
